Why Drivers May Require A Temporary Car Insurance Policy

Written on March 11, 2010 – 12:31 pm | by MichaelZ

Several car insurance policies are still sold for 12 months. Although this meets the needs of several drivers, some have more unusual requirements and now flexible insurance is available for much shorter periods of time.

Temp auto insurance is often referred to as policies ranging from 1 to 28 days. However, there are now a number of specialist insurance companies who offer flexible insurance for between one to six months.

In addition pay-as-you-go options are now available allowing drivers to setup and manage their policy online. This provides the option of not having to pay for cover when it won’t be needed.

There are several situations where car insurance for three months may be needed. One is making sure you are adequately insured when using a friends motor. Although you may be able to drive another vehicle on your annual policy, taking out an additional policy for this could protect any No Claims Discount built up. This could be an economical option for more experienced drivers.

Another reason short term automobile insurance is taken out is to provide cover for an additional driver so driving can be shared on a longer trip or vacatio.

Insuring an overseas visitor while they are here to drive is another popular reason. As is requiring short term car insurance when buying a new automobile and needing to take it home. Taking a test drive and requiring cover for a day can be another scenario.

Several drivers of vans will either be hiring or borrowing the vehicle. This can be where van insurance for 3 months is necessary, when you are using a van for differing scenarios.

For those riders that are planning a summer road trip, bike insurance for 3 months could be a solution if the motorbike you are riding is not one you use regularly. This could be beneficial if they will only be riding the motorbike while they are away.

How To Help Save Your Teeth and Gums From Expensive Dental Treatments…

Written on March 10, 2010 – 6:55 am | by MichaelZ

If you are concerned about the high cost of dental care and the almost complete lack of cost coverage – even when you have insurance – you are definitely not alone. One thing we should not overestimate is the importance of our dental health.

You may scarcely notice your teeth when everything is fine. However, when something hurts, you have a cavity or perhaps need a root canal, you do notice. Most likely, at that point, you are willing to pay the price to get this dental work done. That price, as you undoubtedly know, can be very high, depleting your savings or causing you to ‘make payments’ to your dentist or credit card company.

What if there were some simple things that you could do to actually prevent expensive treatments in the first place? Here are some things to keep in mind.

1. The pH balance of your mouth is extremely important. Bacteria multiply more rapidly in an acidic environment and foods and beverages that are acidic can leach the calcium and phosphate right out of your teeth causing them to weaken and be more susceptible to – you guessed it – cavities!

Beverages like soda and coffee can drive the pH balance to the acidic side. You can sip on milk or water while eating or drinking such things. That will help, but you really should consider a pH balanced rinse or chewing xylitol gum after eating such meals.

2. Plaque build up – This is an amazing simple, yet complicated problem. It should be obvious to you that brushing and flossing are not a fool-proof method of avoiding dental problems. If there were, there would not be a need for so many dentists. The key here is that plaque is actually relatively easy to disrupt. No need to brush hard, just often! Consistency can help you win the fight against plaque.

3. The same acidic foods and drinks can increase plaquing as well. Even some ‘healthy’ foods can do this. Blueberries are one of the worst foods that contribute to plaquing.

Is the answer to avoid all ‘bad’ foods. That, in my opinion would be impossible.

As I write this, I am situated inside a coffee shop in Kansas City. There is literally zero healthy food here. When I get hungry, I end up eating a cookie or piece of cake or an unhealthy sandwich loaded with meats and cheese – it doesn’t even taste good. But, when you are hungry, you will eat anything!

Therefore, to counteract the effect of acidic foods and beverages, I try to keep some xylitol gum on hand. Xylitol has a powerful pH balancing effect. But not all xylitol gums are created equal. Some barely have enough put in by the manufacturer simply so that they can claim it on the label. It is virtually useless and because of the other ingredients in it, it could very well be harmful!

Xylitol, pH balanced mouthwash, milk and water can all help you avoid the long term damage that can come from exposing your teeth and gums to harmful, acidic foods. Do not be the person who sips on soda or coffee all day. You are constantly putting acid in and doing nothing to change your mouth pH, you are doing this all day long! What do you think will happen long term – after years of this behavior?

The same conditions that improve your chances for dental caries also can contribute to the development of gum disease. Both conditions can be expensive to treat.

Simple Ways To Improve The Value Of Your Home

Written on March 8, 2010 – 11:29 pm | by MichaelZ

Reselling your residence can be a very complicated process. There is a lot of money at stake, so many people put their faith in high-priced brokers to get them the best deal possible. Well, there are plenty of other simple and cheap ways to for you, yourself, to improve your home’s value. Whether you have an hdb resale flat or full-sized house with a front yard, take the time to make the necessary considerations.

First and foremost, make sure your place is dirt and junk free. Although cleaning a home is not something anyone looks forward to, it could really hurt the resale value if you neglect to. Scrub the floors, toss out useless clutter and grab your Dyson upright vacuum cleaner to make those carpets spotless.

Next up are the walls. Ask yourself if all the colors actually match each other and look to see if there are chips or cracks in the paint job. If prospective buyers notice any of this when they enter your home, they’re going to be turned off. It doesn’t matter that they may paint over the walls eventually, it matters that they feel comfortable there in the first place.

After you’ve cleaned up and fixed your walls, your place should be looking pretty good. Take this time to focus on subtle home decor accents. The trick ii to pick unassuming details. Something that makes your buyers feel like they are welcome here and can relax. This is what most of them are looking for in a home.

For the large home owners, chances are you have a front lawn. Yard upkeep is always one of the pains of home-owning, but this is something you can not afford to put off when trying to resell your house. Mow the grass, sweep the leaves and get rid of any dead plants. Let the buyers feel like your yard is picture perfect year round. If you leave it unkempt, don’t be surprised if many don’t even make it to the door.

After you’ve finished the more physical chores, remember to document your house at its finest. Many people don’t consider the importance of quality photos when selling their home. If you take the time to capture your place with nice lighting and at the right angle, you can guarantee you will be receiving many more visitors than those who skipped this step.

So, although you may feel a lack of control when selling your home, there are in fact a number of things within your power. Things like cleaning, painting and decorating are simple tasks, yet can perhaps give your residence that extra push to make the sale.
